At OTEEC's
Earthdog tests in Turner, Oregon, Belden Farms were awash with Cairn
terriers. For once Dachshunds, Jack Russells, and Border were in the
minority. Char Owens, whom we love, even though she has Dachshunds,
did a masterful job as Test Secretary, which is a truly momentous job.
Peggy Appel and Brad LaBroad each presided one day as Test Chairman.
("Without whom, not!") They always work their heads off--
even though this year, they have four wee ones at home.
"It was a dark and stormy night..." (Oops. Let me start again...)
It was a bright and sunny day. Anyway, enough of this persiflage. The
results. Many of our ranks did quite well this weekend.
Among
Saturday's Triumphant:
Joywood's
Clyde First Durmond finished his JE title! Clyde moved up to Senior
the next day. (Clyde lives with Kevin Durkin and Graham Richmond. Dur-mond,
get it?)
Scotch Broom Ginger Root earned his first JE leg. Clyde's half-brother,
Rooty was set to finish off his title next chance he had.
(Daryl and Randy Bahls own Rooty.)
Braecairn's Kelsey Colleen went ballistic on the rats her first time
out,
qualifying in both Intro and Junior for her first leg. (Kelsey is one
of Ken and Sandy Danielson's two campers.)
Ch. KinLoch's
Royal Troon, JE earned his first SE leg.
(Vicki Havlik and Hannah and Karen Rivenburgh have "joint custody"
of Oliver.)
Raskelf's Hooray Henry McCork, JE-- I hope I have his name right-- got
a second SE leg. (McCork is owned by Dawn and John Gennrich.)
Sunday
was a little stingier with the wins:
BUT:
TuSchu's Untied, CD, SE deserved and received her very first Masters
leg! Peggy Appel and Brad LaBroad began Robinsend Cairns with Barley,
who provided the inspiration for their kennel name. She will likely
be their second ME! She is proof that sometimes persistence pays off.
Scotch Broom Ginger Root earned his second leg and Junior Earthdog title.
To my knowledge, Rooty may well be the youngest Cairn EVER to have gotten
an AKC Earthdog title. At a mere 9 months, 7 days, he edges out his
half-brother Oliver by something like three days! Both of them beat
the one set by their father, my very own Geordie, by about a month.
Something was afoot in Senior this day! There were NO QUALIFIERS with
the majority of the participants entering by way of the false entrance.
Many-- and a lot were Cairns did SPLENDIDLY had they not done this.
Even veteran
Buccaneer's Queen Anne's Lace, ME fell to this glitch that was invisible
to the eye. Otherwise exceptional were (especially)
Katrina
Sussmeier's Chriscairn's Titian Trevor, JE (Trevor), Clyde, Oliver,
Rosebud, and McCork.
Other
attempting and promising-- or deciding that they might rather not were:
Joywood's
Geordie's Caper,
Ch. Joywood's Annie Laurie (I think she may have passed Intro), Scotch
Broom Tarragon (who eminates love for ALL God's creatures, including
rats),
Braecairn's Ede (darn, Bette-- the rest of the Gaelic escapes me at
the moment), Ede says "My name is Braecairn
Easgan Galla!"
Crngormfairisle Rubytwoshoe (Sorry, Pat-- didn't know exactly which
letters you chose to omit due to AKC form limitations),
Ch.
Joywood's Rosebud, JE., and
Kiowa's Twisted Rose, CDX (Susan McAlpin's Rosie is this // close to
having it all click in.)
Also
at the OTEEC trials at Turner, doing their darndest in Junior were Am
Can. Ch. KinLoch's Homerun, CD and his mother, Am. Can. Ch. Joywood's
Agatha C. of Kintra. Homer DARTS down the hole at breakneck speed to
the quarry. He will work, but he likes to have Mom (Vicki) cheering
him on at the rat put-in, something that cannot be done in a real test.
Chrissy, a veteran of AWTA trials, is a wee bit rusty but hey, 'twas
not her day. John Genngrich's Bingo (Is it Sunrich Brt Gold Miner Bingo)
also ran in Junior.
And HOW CAN I EVER FORGET????? Spike, JE, Barb and John Schuster's beloved
Chicken Killer. He ran in Senior, but he ran superbly in the Cairn Races,
which followed Saturday's tests. Spike, with his "aerodynamic"
tail won the races handily. Bette Shuh's Ede, who possesses a similarly
designed tail to Spike's, made an excellent showing in the races, too.
Hope I didn't forget anyone.
So there you have it.
Jill, with Maggie and Geordie-- "just there for the ride."
